Cutaway practice locks are “real” locks that have been milled open, so you can see the pins and springs inside the lock. If you use a key or lock pick with a tension wrench in the lock, you can see how the pins and springs react to ityour lockpicking.
Transparent exercise locks are mostly made of acrylic. The housing is completely transparent, so you can see what is happening inside the lock. A practice lock with such features allows you to learn to understand lockpicking in the best way.
There are also locks that are neither milled open nor transparent, such as the locks from ABUS.
Always learn lockpicking on one of these practice locks. Never get started on a lock that is attached to one of your doors, because there is always a rare chance that you will damage the lock.
Start lockpicking and manipulate locks to open them without a key. A transparent, cutaway or graded practice lock is the ideal option for getting started with lockpicking.
We also offer dimple locks, disc detainers or radial locks, if you are looking for a more advanced challenge!
Dimple locks
Dimple locks are basically just pin cylinder locks that use the flat side of the key to drop the pins in. So instead of cutting into the edge of the key, as with a standard pin tumbler lock, dimple locks turn the key 90 degrees and have cuts into the flat side. Because the cuts look like dimples, all locks that use this design are called “dimple locks”. You will see these locks a lot in Europe.
There are many people who are intrigued by dimple locks. Dimple locks, on the other hand, are nothing special and rely on a few small changes to convince people that they somehow offer more security. In contrast, the opposite is true. Dimple locks are almost identical to a standard cylinder lock. Dimple locks have only two big differences and that is that they have larger pins and the key is rotated 90 degrees. Those are about the only differences you will find! So don’t be afraid to select them as your next lockpicking challenge! For dimple locks, you can use a diamond lockpick, but there are also special lockpick sets for these cylinder locks.
