Sparrows Lockpick sets
Lock pick sets from Sparrows are made exclusively of American 301 stainless steel that is cold rolled. The advantage that cold rolling brings is that it makes the steel even stronger. Because of this, you can utigate that a Sparrows lock pick set will maintain consistent durability and quality.
The steel of Sparrows lockp icks is designed for special applications where extreme strength and hardness is required. The steel can withstand a pressure of 280,000 PSI. This is more than a lock pick will need.
Not only are Sparrows’ lock pick sets made from this steel, but they also make their Slim Jim, Mini Jim, Flat Bars and many other tools from it.
Although cold-rolled 301 stainless steel exceeds the requirement of a lock pick set, Sparrows continues to adhere to these standards. In fact, quality is of paramount importance here.
The question then is whether this is the best steel from which to make a lock pick set. The answer is no. Sparrows knows this too, but the disadvantage of stronger metal is that it also has a higher cost. In addition, there is no need for stronger metal to open locks. So a lock pick set from Sparrows is cheap and strong enough to open many locks with.
We asked Sparrows how they got their 301 steel to be even stronger than standard 301 stainless steel. They are a little cagey in their response, but it has become clear to us that it has something to do with the cooling of steel on a cold soil.
